Abcam Congress - Exploring the links between obesity and its adverse health outcomes

About the Conference

Organized by Professor Sir Stephen O'Rahilly (Wellcome-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science, University of Cambridge, UK) and Professor David Savage (Wellcome-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science, University of Cambridge, UK), this conference provided an opportunity to discuss:

• The potential roles of altered lipid metabolism (‘lipotoxicity’), hyperinsulinaemia,  inflammation, adipokines and altered redox state  in ‘causing’ insulin resistance.
• Insights from human genetic studies on the determinants of fat mass, distribution and metabolic disease.
